La Laborcilla is an 18th century hacienda a few minutes from the centre of Querétaro, built as a grain store and restored keeping the original structure. A seventeen metre fountain runs down the middle of the terrace, and the rooms are decorated along different lines: Roman, Hindu and Egyptian, with statues that are authorised replicas from the Louvre. The bar is called The Carter Bar, after the Egyptologist who found Tutankhamun's tomb. The atmosphere is almost surreal. The pizza is one of the best I have ever had abroad, full stop. The selection of cheeses from Querétaro is at the highest level, so much so that at first I thought they were French. I went with M.M. and M.M. before the meeting with the Cluster Vitivinícola de Querétaro.
