For years people asked me the same question: so what is it exactly that you do? I didn’t have a short answer, and I’m not sure I have one even now.

At twenty-one I founded Playground A.P.S., a non-profit that brings the cultural programming of a big city to a small one in the north-east of Italy. By young people, for young people: that was our principle. Playground gave rise to All-Star Festival — four days of urban music and sport that bring almost ten thousand people to Sacile every July — and to BeforePlaces, which gives disused basketball courts new life through art.

In the meantime I studied Management at Bocconi University, finishing with six months in Mexico at EGADE Business School. Then I set off again, to see whether the same things worked elsewhere and at a different scale. I worked on large events: two years between Mexico and the United States, then the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Italy.

Now I work as a consultant at The European House – Ambrosetti, based in Milan but constantly in some other city. The work consists of looking at a problem until you find the join that can hold all the pieces together.

I photograph, and it is the way I have always looked at the world. I shoot on film, which you could fairly describe as slow and inconvenient, but that is exactly what I need it for: to stand in front of things for longer.

It took me a long time to understand that these were all versions of the same approach: to look closely, and to try to show other people what I see.

I don’t do just one thing, and I stopped treating that as a flaw a long time ago.
