A Chicago institution. It is literally underground, below Michigan Avenue, between what used to be the Sun-Times and Tribune newsrooms, and walking in feels like stepping straight into the eighties. The place opened in 1934, founded by William Sianis, a Greek immigrant, and it takes its name from a young goat that fell off a truck. In 1945 Sianis took the goat to Wrigley Field for the World Series, they threw them both out, and that is where the curse on the Cubs came from, which lasted until 2016. This is where the reporters drank, Mike Royko above all, and it is where the Saturday Night Live sketch with Belushi shouting "cheezborger" comes from. Go hard: triple cheeseburger or ham and cheese. Service is non-existent, but that is exactly the point.
